Optimal Shower Experience Thwarted

I’ve taken “helpless” to a whole new level tonight. We all have different ceremonies we do when we are about to shower. Some run the shower for a couple of minutes before getting in so as to sauna up the bathroom a bit. Some have to be naked for a couple of minutes outside the shower, perhaps to prepare the body for the cleansing ritual.

Mine is music.
I select a playlist by determining which artist will make for a dope accompaniment to the epic battle between me and the knifed shadowy figure from Hitchcock’s Psycho.

I was showering up to my beloved band: the Reign of Kindo. I had the songs in no particular order, but was endowed with good fortune with the random selection.
First, we started with “Battling the Years” which keeps you engaged the entire song. An astounding amount of energy that makes for a pleasant shower experience, especially when one sings along.

We move to “Now We’ve Made Our Ascent” which is filled to the brim with a brilliant orchestration of instruments. You get some laid back vibes and it switches up to almost yell at you, but not in a Linkin Park, “Crawling” kinda way.

By this time, I’m under the water, eyes closed, and painting pictures to the stories I’m hearing.

Next up was “Nightingale” (I told you! Fortunate right?!). Despite its being a dreary song, the picture I paint is a dark rainy Gotham, then the driver heads down a winding road through the forest to get back to his place. Oh, and the car has HID headlights, so everything is extra crisp.

Then came “Soon it Shall Be”. Now, I’m not one to skip over that song in a typical, music listening scenario. But I’m in the shower. I’ve been feeding off the great energy of the music. Not to mention, I may have used the perfect amount of body wash. That means I don’t have to re-up and risk wasting some liquid or precious, precious time.

This song is a downer.

Completely takes me out of the zone. I’m getting lethargic. I don’t feel like scrubbing my feet anymore. They’re so far. The suds are thinning out. I don’t have a solid base of lather and it’s fading fast.

It’s a 5 minute song.

If it weren’t for the fact that I’m still not used to water hitting my scalp, and I have to wash it more often now that I’m sans locs. I got through it. I was able to finish thoroughly, and plenty of time before the water got cold.

And I didn’t have to squeeze more soap.

Success.
