Coming out of class, I decided to walk to the student union instead of taking my motorcycle. The sun was out and beautiful so it was a pleasure. As I began the walk, I was listening to a mixtape featuring Marsha Ambrosius (songstress from the disbanded group Floetry). It was a song about how she was giving up on love and letting whatever may happen, happen.
Being in the mood for something a little different, I switched to “Vienna” by Matt Costa. It was crazy how much brighter the world got. I literrally felt a shiver as I continued walking. I slowed down and really just started looking around, smiling.
I guess the moral of this story is how things we don’t even think affect out outlooks, really do. I’m making the ever difficult transition from rap to hip-hop, neo-soul, and more alternative. Currently, I’m cycling through Coldplay, Death Cab, Feist, Common, Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, and a bit of Charlie Hunter.
Let’s not disregard the little things in our lives that influence us.
