Where to begin?!
If all the stops are to be like this, I don’t care if we ever make it outta the country haha. Had a GREAT time in San Fernandina.
In the am of Day 3, we motor into the city marina, which is at the beginning of a cool little strip of local businesses. It looks plenty touristy, but doesn’t have an over-abundance of older people causing pedestrian traffic.
The town is really dog-friendly. Most shops have water bowls on the outside and Dubi is allowed almost everywhere we go.We grab some food and decide to kick it at Island Time, a frozen yogurt spot. Jodi is a guy our age who is hella cool. He asks us the pleasantries and encourages us to check out the nightlife.
AC is a pleasant change of pace.
After a couple of hours showering, roaming around, and getting settled, we hit Palace Saloon’s where they have a daily $0.25 beer special. All over that. We bar hop around town and even meet up with Jodi and his girlfriend. They tag along and make night 1 a complete success.
The next day, we kick it with friends of TBF (the Brothers Foote) that just happened to be heading to Amelia Island the same time we’ll be there. There are no coincidences. We hand out with them, learn that we’re docked at the local part of the island, hit up the dog-friendly beach, have dinner and another night of debauchery & live music.
Not once did we feel like we were tourists after 5.
Of course you know Dubi was too grateful for land, peeing on every bush, tree, light pole, tumbleweed, and piece of fauna in striking distance.
We visit a couple more shops, get hooked up on supplies for less at Fred’s, peruse a little more, and head out.
The winds seem to shift into our favor for a couple of days according to the big homie NOAA, so we decide to strike out for the ocean and forgo the safe waters of the ICW.
