Brief stop in Melbourne and Cocoa. Just in time for a Rebelution concert at the Cocoa Civic Center. We were anchored behind it and enjoyed a bit of backyard tunes this evening. We take off early and get some petrol and such in Melbourne.
Sebastian was suggested as a cool, water-town that would make an ideal stop. We anchor right outside of Capt Hiram’s Resort and paddle in. During our miles trek to walmart, I decide to try luck at hitchhiking.
In less than a minute, a champagne colored F-150 pulls up. Mike and I could barely believe it worked this well, and it wasn’t until it was pulled almost onto the sidewalk do we get giddy and make our way.
We exchange pleasantries with Craig. He’s from New Smyrna, with a daughter that lives in NJ. Odds? He gives us a lift, but before hand he heads back to the driver’s seat to show us pictures of his grandkids. I figure we’re in the land of the elderly and this must be custom to their lands.
Now I don’t claim to read minds, but when he gave the pictures of his bi-racial daughter’s children, I chuckle. The wink and head nod were too much, and it felt good to think he was really connecting with me. “Just so you know” is a quote I won’t be forgetting for quite some time.
Would have loved to hear that story.
So I attribute my first successful hitchhiking experience to the black man that knocked up Craig’s daughter… twice.
I wonder if his mother took it like Legit’s mom.
